Every Drop Counts: A CAIER Project to be Showcased in the U.S.

Experts from the Central Asian Institute of Environmental Research (CAIER) have won the “SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals” competition, organized by the UN Global Compact’s Central Asia office. The competition launched in January 2025 and unfolded in several stages.

CAIER’s project, REWATRIX Smart System, developed by Aidanа Vaikhanova, Head of the Water Resources Department, and Yerke bulan Kazhdarov, ESG Consultant, was recognized as the best in Central Asia. The decision was made by an expert panel comprised of representatives from the Global Compact Network in Central Asia, the United Nations office, and mentors. REWATRIX will be presented at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit, to be held on September 23 in New York (USA).

REWATRIX: SMART SYSTEM addresses the urgent challenge of water scarcity in Central Asia. This intelligent water reuse system transforms rainwater and wastewater into safe technical resources, reducing costs, protecting nature, and supporting the creation of sustainable cities of the future.

With REWATRIX, every user can monitor their water consumption, implement automated reuse scenarios (for example, irrigation or technical applications), and contribute to sustainable water management. It’s a step toward building the smart, eco-friendly homes of tomorrow.

“We hope that the REWATRIX: SMART SYSTEM technology will make a meaningful contribution to advancing sustainable water use and innovation in our region and beyond,” said the project’s creators, Aidana Vaikhanova and Yerkebulan Kazhdarov
