UN Global Compact Leaders’ Summit 2025: CAIER at the center of the global dialogue on water, climate and energy

On September 23, 2025, the UN Global Compact Leaders’ Summit took place in New York — a key event in the field of sustainable development. Representing Central Asia at the event were experts from the Central Asian Institute for Environmental Research (CAIER).

CAIER specialists presented their project REWATRIX: SMART SYSTEM, designed to address the problem of water scarcity in Central Asia. This intelligent water reuse system transforms rainwater and wastewater into a safe technical resource, reducing costs, protecting nature, and contributing to the creation of sustainable cities of the future.

With REWATRIX, each user can monitor water consumption, implement automated reuse scenarios (for example, for irrigation or technical needs), and contribute to sustainable water resource management. It is a step toward building the smart, eco-friendly homes of the future.

The CAIER project became a winner of the UN SDG Innovation Accelerator 2025. The project was developed by CAIER experts — Aidana Vaikhanova, Head of the Water Resources Department, and Yerkebulan Kazhdarov, ESG Consultant.

In New York, the project received high recognition from international experts, including Yılmaz Yıldız, CEO of Zurich Insurance Group in Turkey; Sofanah Alrobayan, Senior Manager of Global Innovation at Misk Foundation; and Dan Thomas, Chief of Communications, UN Global Compact.

This year’s Summit gathered participants from 15 countries and various sectors. CAIER was represented by Aidana Vaikhanova. Projects presented at the event focused on children’s welfare, waste management, the development of digital navigators and hazard monitoring dashboards, as well as the use of artificial intelligence technologies.

“The Summit was attended by Sanda Ojiambo, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and CEO of the UN Global Compact. Discussions focused on the key global challenges of our time — water, climate, and energy. In dialogue, Sanda Ojiambo emphasized that these areas are the top priorities for sustainable development worldwide,” shared Aidana Vaikhanova, Head of the Water Resources Department at CAIER.
