First meeting of the Board of Directors of the UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia held

On January 21, the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia was held.
The meeting was attended by Asel Tasmagambetova, founder of CAIER, who in 2025 held the position of chair of the UN Global Compact Advisory Committee for Central Asia, and in 2024 became the winner of the UN Global Compact Pioneer SDG 2024 competition in Central Asia.

The UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia brings together business representatives from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan and serves as a regional platform for promoting responsible business practices and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

During the meeting, the results of the Network's work over the past three years were presented. Between 2023 and 2025, the number of participants in the UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia increased from 36 to 146 organizations. Almost 500 company representatives were trained as part of the educational programs implemented. In addition, in 2025 alone, the Network organized more than 90 events on various topics for businesses in the region.

The following individuals participate in the work of the Board of Directors as observers:
• Sarango Radnaraqcha (Kazakhstan) — UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of the UN Country Office;
• Sabin Mal (Uzbekistan) — UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Head of the UN Country Office.

The key issue on the agenda was the discussion of the Network's strategy for the period 2026–2030.

The presented strategy provides for the development of partnership formats for interaction between companies, the expert community, and international partners, the implementation of joint initiatives, the promotion of best practices in sustainable development, as well as the use of analytical and research tools to form sustainable business solutions and increase the competitiveness of companies in the region.

Special attention was paid to the Network's international activities. In 2025, representatives of Central Asia took part in the UN General Assembly events for the first time as part of Business Week, speaking at the Central Asia panel session
“The New Silk Road to Sustainable Development,” organized by the UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia.

The next meeting of the Board of Directors of the UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia will be held in October 2026 in Tashkent.
