Shoqan Ecology 2026 Has Concluded: Organizers Continue to Support Participants’ Projects

The Shoqan Ecology 2026 young scientists’ competition has come to an end, but the work on its participants’ environmental projects continues. The competition organizers — Shoqan Walikhanov Private School — together with CAIER specialists, continue to provide practical support, helping participants improve their ideas, strengthen the scientific aspects of their projects, and explore opportunities for further testing and implementation.

Among the participants are Alnur Amriev and Kamila Beisembayeva, authors of the Revive_back project, which was created in November 2025. The project focuses on restoring soils in Almaty contaminated with heavy metals. The proposed approach is based on accelerated succession and phytoremediation, aimed at preparing contaminated soil for further restoration and improvement.

Another project, SuVision, developed by Aiaru Kanatova and Aiken Khairulla, focuses on protecting aquatic ecosystems. The team is developing a system for the early detection of deteriorating water quality and conditions that may lead to algal blooms. The solution combines sensors for water quality monitoring, data analysis, and an early warning system. In the future, the authors are also considering the use of beneficial microorganisms to reduce certain pollutants.

Following the completion of the competition, participants continue developing their projects with the support of CAIER experts. This collaboration gives young researchers practical experience, enables them to conduct the necessary research, and helps them gradually transform their competition ideas into solutions that can be applied in practice.

Most importantly, the young researchers have received a unique opportunity to conduct the necessary laboratory research at CAIER’s R&D Laboratory, using professional equipment and the expertise of the institute’s specialists.
