CAIER will participate in the development of ESG principles in Kyrgyzstan

The Central Asian Institute for Environmental Studies (CAIER) and the Academy of Sustainable Development of the Union of Banks of Kyrgyzstan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at integrating the principles of sustainable development and ESG in the financial sector of the Kyrgyz Republic. The agreement will be the basis for a long-term partnership aimed at improving the competencies of market participants and developing conditions for sustainable finance in Kyrgyzstan.
The partnership covers various activities that will help to strengthen the ESG agenda in the country.
Within the framework of the cooperation it is planned to:
-Conduct training events for specialists and managers of financial organizations on the implementation of ESG principles and sustainable finance principles;
-Provide consulting support for the implementation of ESG and sustainable development approaches in the activities of the banking and corporate sectors.

The first joint event will be a training session “Climate Agenda in the Financial Sector”, which will reveal the relevance of the topic and provide some practical skills for specialists of financial organizations.

About the Union of Banks of Kyrgyzstan and the Sustainable Development Academy

The Sustainability Academy was officially launched on April 26, 2024 with the support of IFC's ESG Practices Development Program in Central Asia and Turkey. The Academy aims to promote the principles of sustainable development and ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) in the financial and corporate sectors of Kyrgyzstan. The Union of Banks of Kyrgyzstan, founded in 2005, unites 20 commercial banks, two large microfinance companies, the Interbank Processing Center, the Guarantee Fund, the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Safe & Sound Credit Bureau and three associate members to jointly address the challenges facing the financial sector.
